Client Collaboration - Part 1

We have launched our new Client Collaboration portal. A customized Liferay Social Office instance will function as the primary interface when working collaboratively with our customers.

Clients will be linked to other external client support systems (Shared File Repository, Trouble Ticket, Subscription Services) through the portal.

Collaboration and Giving Back To Others

I was reviewing some of my personal notes that I have kept over the years. I ran across this bit of information that I wrote about collaboration and giving back to others.

As professionals, we should be thankful for the multitude of unamed individuals who aided in our development. No one got to where they are solely on their own. If you really gave it some serious thought, there was somebody who gave of their time and passed on critical knowledge to you. There was someone who gave you a break when no one else would. There was someone who believed in you, no matter the odds. Those are attributes we should appreciate on a daily basis.

We should not horde knowledge nor should we expect to be the one "all knowing" individual. It is both stressful and unnecessary. Collaboration, cooperation, parterning and mentoring are good skills for anyone to have in their repetoire of talents. Giving back to mankind is a honorable act of kindness. It is the opposite of being selfish and greedy.

Site Maintenance - Protecting Resources

At C Stevens Jr & Associates (CSJ&A), we ensure that basic security considerations are an integral part of any website launch. We approach this vital task by first acknowledging that the best security in the world will not keep out a determined and knowledgeable individual. With that understanding, our mitigation strategy is geared towards attempting to limit the amount of damage anyone could make.

Our initial website configuration process is based upon adhering to well regarded security practices, policies and procedures. We ensure that the site backup process is valid, workable and actually functioning. We check to make sure that the restoration process is also valid, workable and functional. Our maintenance activities ensure that updates are tested and applied in a timely manner.

We don't leave the security of the website, it's data or databases at stock installation values. We actively monitor (both internally and externally) each installation to keep tabs on whom or what accesses the website.

Those are just but a few of the proactive steps we take in regards to securing our website installations. We have a more detailed "Security Essentials" document that is specific about how our mitigation strategy works to counter threats. It is available to our clients on our Alfresco Collaboration Portal.
